In the Works: Gig-Ready Jazz Bassist

A few days ago I had a major revelation: my practice guides need to help jazz bassists get (or get more) gig-ready. Right now I’m getting ready to launch a separate website called the Gig-Ready Jazz Bassist – with a blog dedicated to jazz, bass, and practice. (Don’t worry, I’ll still be keeping this site as my personal blog and portfolio) Here is a brief summary of how I’d like to structure my 6-volume set of practice guides:

  1. Sound Production (1-Finger Pizzicato, 2-Finger Pizzicato, Arco, Dynamics/Articulation, Fingering, and Shifting Drills
  2. Note-Reading (Bass Clef, Learning Half-Position Notes, Learning Mid-Position Notes, Choosing Fingerings/Shifts, Basic Rhythms, and Figuring Out the “Roadmap”)
  3. Bassline Construction (Time-Feel)
  4. Bassline Construction (Chords/Scales)
  5. Learning Repertoire
  6. Soloing
